South London interfaith group lunch

I told the group on Thursday about our meeting and there were some comments about refugees and the probem of reaching them. As my Syrian friend said they don't want to be called refugees! I also got rather passionate about Lambeth closing 10 local libraries and turning them into exercise centres. Events have now seen the occupation of Carnegie library at Herne Hill to prevent the closure! Croydon are also threatening our libraries and Lewsiham have already decimated the service. I am absolutley opposed to professional staff being replaced by volunteers! Our next meeting on the 20th should be interesting. In the mean time get in touch if you tink immediate action is needed.
The do appear to be networks in some areas like Kingston to receive migrants.

New blogspot

Welcome to a new resource. Authors are invited to add details of useful resources. Links and brief details would be very helpful.

Stations

I have now visited all 14 of the Stations. http://www.coexisthouse.org.uk/artists-and-places.html Perhaps the most moving are at the Salvation Army HQ next to the Millenium bridge and St Stephen Wallbrook. Marcin Mazur tells me that the Cardinal and Bishop of London will lead a pilgrimage from the Salvation Army HQ at 2 p.m. this coming Wednesday in the middle of Holy Week.  An added bonus the Wallace collection has a little booklet The Crucifixion in art. The National gallery Bassano is not in room 9. The Botticini altarpiece is lovely and still in the Sunley room.
Another exhibition which all should visit is the stations downstairs at St Martin’s in the Fields. You can also see these moving photographs of refugees in the Christianity magazine which is being given away free this month. See another email just sent.
Happy Easter

John

This Easter, Premier Christianity has embarked on a dramatic new project called The Stations.

The Stations is a photography project created in collaboration with creative director, Marksteen Adamson, reflecting on the Stations of the Cross and the suffering of Jesus through images and stories of today's refugees.

The traditional ‘stations of the cross’ are a series of 14 images depicting the stages of Christ’s journey on Good Friday. This unique photographic study is a parallel journey retold through the lives and stories of the refugees Marksteen met and befriended in Calais, Lebanon and the UK.

Explore The Stations in this month’s issue of Premier Christianity by requesting a free copy below.

There is also a free exhibition at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London until 10th April. We encourage you to visit this spectacular display of The Stations and bring along your copy of Premier Christianity as a guide.

You can also access additional stories, images, resources and ways to respond on The Stations website, including a special Premier Youthwork meeting guide.

What this blog looks at

On my list, the useful resources we are  collecting are  for  people struggling as...
>Refugees  - what support is available and identifying  current location of 10000 who Cameron agreed to let into the  UK specifically women and children
>Disabled and their families', developing an empowered can do approach to care, schooling options.
> young people exposed to Sexual exploitation and sexual  abuse and  communication skills for their non abusive families.
> tenants- housing rights, minimum standards of room dimensions.
> identifying people who can speak languages refugees understand to translate verbally and or written material
> transformative stories of these situations
We are collating all this information and will be adding to our blog with view to developing working parties.
